What is Polio?

Polio (Poliomyelitis) is a serious disease that has affected many people in the past. It started in the 1900's with the peak of the outbreak in 1952. the vaccine was announced in 1955 and was licensed in 1962. It mainly affects children under the age of 5. Cases of polio have decreased by over 99% since 1988, from a result of 350 000 eople with the disease then, and 650 people with cases of polio reported in 2011. For this, we say thanks to the vaccine and the efforts to terminate this disease.

On this website, you will find the symptoms of the condition, the causes, the body systems that are affected by the disease, how the body systems affect one another, and how the disease affects the daily life of the person who has it. You will also find if there are any medications or treatments to help the victim, and if it is life-threatening and if it is possible to recover.
